During the first day, participants discussed the current HIV situation in the participating countries, regional experiences in harm reduction, access to naloxone, human rights violations faced by people who use drugs, and existing legislative challenges. Special attention was also given to reducing HIV-related stigma and discrimination, the importance of community-led approaches, and the pathways toward creating a safer, more inclusive, and rights-based environment.
The discussions also addressed the issue of sustainable financing for the HIV response in Armenia, particularly in the context of transition and the importance of long-term solutions and collaboration.
As the opening of the international conference coincided with the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, the first day concluded with a candlelight vigil in memory of those who lost their lives to AIDS. These two days served as another important opportunity for exchanging experience, strengthening collaboration, and shaping solutions capable of bringing real change to people’s lives.
We will soon share more about the second day of the international conference.
