On May 19–20, Real World, Real People NGO Executive Director Nairuhi Safaryan participated in the international workshop titled “Empowering the Power of Community Support for People Affected by TB” held in Oslo, Norway.
During the meeting, she presented Armenia’s experience in implementing peer-to-peer counseling within the field of TB support. The presentation was titled: “Development of a Peer-to-Peer TB Support System in Armenia: Experience in Engaging and Retaining Peer Counselors.”
The presentation highlighted the community-based and people-centered TB care and support model implemented in Armenia, the experience of multidisciplinary collaboration, and the role of peer counselors in improving treatment adherence, reducing stigma, and building beneficiaries’ trust.
The workshop provided an opportunity to discuss Armenia’s experience with international partners, donor organizations, and TB experts, as well as to emphasize the importance of community-based and peer-to-peer approaches in establishing an effective TB response system.
Within the framework of the meeting, separate discussions were also held with representatives of international partners and donor organizations regarding the development of community-based TB services in Armenia, the expansion of peer-to-peer approaches, and opportunities for future cooperation
